Why anti-static flexible packaging material

With the development of science and technology, many countries have made great progress in the technology of electronic products. However, in practice, it is found that the application of anti-static technology in electronic products is not very reasonable, which in turn leads to the electrostatic problems. It not only affect the product quality, but also the production speed, as well as the customer’s product experience.

Electronics are gradually moving toward portability, miniaturization, and digitization. The new requirement is made both in high performance and the reliability of equipment components. In order to achieve this purpose, it is necessary to improve anti-static technology and take use of it. Due to the sensitive structure of equipment components to static electricity, and the increasing connection between components, as well as the widespread use of polymer materials, that restrict the application of electrostatic technology.

So what are the hazards of static electricity? It mainly includes sudden failure and potential failure of components, caused by electrostatic discharge, and then lead to the whole machine decline or fail. Therefore, the main purpose of electrostatic protection and control is to control electrostatic discharge, that is, to prevent the it happen or keep the energy down below the threshold of damage. In principle, the electrostatic protection is proceed both from generation and dissipation, which could make the electrostatic level not exceed the safety limit, and achieve the protection purpose.

How shall we solve the static electricity problem in packaging industry? The anti-static packaging material with no friction charge could help to deal. Reducing or eliminating the friction charge during loading or using, preventing the item from damaging, are the advantage of anti-static packaging. Besides, its protective capability depends on the material property. As different resistivity decides different application.

Based on these, the anti-static packaging is widely used in the electronics, aerospace, weapons, textile and other industries. For example, electronic components or products, photoelectric products, ammunition, fire explosives, etc. Especially in the export packaging, some countries forcefully require the items with anti-static packaging before entering the international market.

In order to make full use of the material properties, people always select appropriate packaging materials to control production costs and avoid the excessive wastes. According to the anti-static grade, or the wrappage, or material construction, there are many kinds of anti-static packaging. In general, we classify it from the material construction. And it consist of two or multi-layer materials by laminating. We may learn as below:

Two layers construction: VMPET with coating/CPE, APET/CPE, APET/CPP

Three layers construction: NY/AL/CPE, PET/AL/CPE

Four layers construction: PET/AL/NY/CPE

From above, the inner layer is the sealing layer, and the strength is stronger twice than regular materials, like CPE, CPP. The middle layer is metal layer, like aluminum foil or aluminized layer. The outside layer is insulating layer with high strength.

In addition to excellent anti-static, anti-radio frequency, water vapor penetration, salt spray and many other functions. It also could shield the electrostatic discharge  from equipment ESD and radiation from external electromagnetic, that is suitable for transportation and packaging for PCB, IC and other electrostatic sensitive high-tech electronic products. Their unique multi-layer structure can form an “induction shield” effect to protect the contents in the bag and isolate electrostatic field.
